At Republic of Yoga, all classes are taught in the Vinyasa style. This elegant and powerful style of Hatha Yoga seamlessly synchronizes breath and movement. Vinyasa is rooted in the ancient Ashtanga Yoga tradition, and has been practiced and passed down through generations of yogis. The outer experience is one of changing physical shapes; the inner experience is stillness. In effect it is a moving prayer, or meditation in motion.

Yin Yoga is a practice that uses traditional asanas and a host of props, in a manner that requires less external effort. The result is stretching connective tissues and opening pathways that allow the free flow of energy.

“The main differences between a Yin and a Yang (the more strenuous and external) Yoga practice are that Yin postures should be done with the muscles relaxed and be held a long time. This is because connective tissue does not stretch like muscles and will not respond well to brief stresses.”
-Paul Grilley

We live a very Yang lifestyle; always on the run, working out, keeping busy. Taking time, at least once a week, to practice Yin Yoga, helps restore balance in the body and by that, improve health and mental clarity.

This class includes use of props such as belts, bolsters, blankets and eye-pillows. Asanas will be held 3 to 6 minutes each, using very little muscular effort, yet, unlike restorative yoga, Yin does work out the body internally.
You may feel quite relaxed and heavy after the workshop.

No previous knowledge of Yin yoga is required. All levels are welcome.

Flow at a slower pace, with attention to breath, focus, energy awareness and alignment. Expect a well-rounded sequence that will encourage and build your inner and outer strength through slow sequences that may include hip openers, side bending, and heart opening poses to prepare you to sit comfortably in a guided meditation practice at the end of class. 75/90 minutes.
